Don’t Improvise – Why Preparation is Key for a Fun Packed Presentation

When it comes to delivering a great presentation, preparation is crucial. While some speakers may make it look like they just show up and deliver the speech of a lifetime, there’s actually a lot of preparation that goes into making it look so effortless.

Here, we’ll look at why preparation is so important, especially if you want to make your presentation memorable.

Helps you to get the right results

In order to achieve the results, you’re hoping for from your presentation, preparation is important. It’s going to be tough to ensure you’ve covered everything if you don’t go into the speech with a plan ( an outline).

When planning ahead, you can figure out what it is you need to achieve by the end of it. Then, identify the best ways to present your information and ideas in order to achieve your overall goal.

The more time you take to plan the presentation, the more you’ll be able to think of unique ways to deliver your message.

Ensures that you identify with your audience

One of the key challenges of delivering a perfect presentation, is making sure it resonates with your audience. No matter how fun-packed you think your speech is, it’s not going to go down well if you’re targeting the wrong audience.

By preparing ahead of time, it allows you to really research your audience. You might not know the exact individuals attending, but you will know their general demographics. Spend time researching your audience and this will allow you to come up with material which directly identifies with them.

Make sure nothing is left out

The last thing you want is to finish your presentation, only to realize you missed out crucial information. This is surprisingly easy to do when you factor in the stress of the day and the nerves you’re likely to face as you give the presentation.

When you prepare in advance, you have the opportunity to make sure nothing is missed out. It can help to start by creating a bullet list of the important points you want to mention. Then, as you create your speech, tick off the points as you fit them into it. That way, you’ll see whether you’ve missed anything out and can adjust the speech accordingly.

It helps to boost your confidence

In order to make your presentation fun and memorable, you’re going to need to present it confidently. While some nerves are to be expected, if you haven’t prepared properly, you’re going to be much more nervous than you should be.

By knowing what you’ll be talking about and how the presentation is structured, it really boosts your confidence. The more confident you are, the easier you’ll find it to get your message across.

There’s also the fact that if you don’t look and sound confident, the audience is unlikely to get behind your ideas. So, if you don’t want to end up wasting your time and you want your speech to be remembered, preparing in advance is key.

Provides the right flow

It’s also important for your presentation to flow correctly. It’s not going to do this if you haven’t prepared it ahead of time.

When you sit down and work on your speech, you can experiment with the flow. This will give you the best idea of which sections should go where and how it can be properly structured in order to deliver the most effective message.

These are just some of the reasons why preparing for a presentation is important. While winging it can seem like a good idea, in reality it’s more than likely going to kill your presentation.
